This is the first backstory I ever wrote for a D&D character - Nesakani Dragonthorne. My half-orc barbarian beefy-girl. I've played as her for over a year now, through thick and thin, and with any luck I'll be playing as her for a good while longer. Below the backstory, I've put my current description of her - she's come a long way and seen some shit.

Hope you enjoy, Aaron.

Backstory

The daughter of Vidmátia Dragonthorne, a Waterdavian noble of the house Dragonthorne, (a large mercantile family that worked hard to rise the social ladder) and an orc slaver named Dh'ovakk The Taker, second in command of the Twisted Spine tribe - who attacked lady Dragonthorne's caravan, killing her security and taking her along with the rest of her traveling party to his tribe's camp in Purskul, Amn. Once there the caravan were to act as slaves, the strong forced into labour and the women kept in the breeding pen. The first born of this immoral union, Nesakani was unwanted - but not unloved. Vidmátia was caring and soft spoken, and at night she would sing to Nes the lullabies that she would hear growing up in Waterdeep. To her father and the tribe to which he was second in command, however, Nesakani was treated with nothing but contempt - frequently jumping in the way of lashes intended for other slaves.

When Nesakani reached the age of four and started being forced into work for the tribe, Vidmátia grew tired and worried for the future of her innocent child, and so she began planning their escape. Which came when Nesakani reached the age of 5, they waited until the tribe were asleep and made a dash to the nearby lake - which led to the Sea of Swords. Little did they know that Dho'vakk had seen the escape and was hot on their tails. Seeing the fire of a torch headed their way Vidmátia put her only daughter on an abandoned boat, handed her a family heirloom (a silver pendant with sapphire inlays) and pushed her out to water. As Nesakani drifted off to the sea, with tear soak eyes she watched as her father swiftly decapitated her mother - kicking her still twitching body to the sand.

After a couple of days drifting through rough waves that crashed against the small boat, nearly flipping it a handful of times, Nesakani landed on the shore of Neverwinter, by an iron mine, where her unconscious form was discovered by the Rockseeker brothers - a trio of dwarven miners. Whilst the other two brothers wanted nothing to do with a Half-Orc child, Gundren took her in and raised her as if she were his own blood. He taught her to speak his native tongue and when she reached the age of 13, in an attempt to help focus her anger, Gundren allowed Nesakani to start working with him in the mines. At the age of 16 however, Nes needed more action and so she started taking dangerous jobs, anything that gave her the opportunity to swing her pick at something other than a wall.

Never one for comfort, Nesakani tends to sleep on the floor, tracing the scars on her back from the lashings she received as a child, whilst her other hand clutches the pendant given to her by her mother and humming lullabies to herself. One day Nesakani wishes to find her father, relieve him of his head and return it; along with her mother's necklace, to whatever family she may have in Waterdeep. Until that day Nes is content to take perilous jobs from the people in town in order to hone her skills and get stronger.

Current Description

Nesakani Dragonthorne is a level 8 Half-Orc Barbarian, and she's seen some shit - and killed most of it. She has pale green - almost grey scar covered skin (big gash scars on the back from whippings), on her right shoulder is a bite scar that reflects the moonlight.

She has bright orange-brown human-like eyes, just below her eyes and across her nose there is a light smattering of freckles, she has auburn - medium length dreadlocks pulled back into a loose ponytail, small pointed ears with multiple piercings and pursed lips revealing two jagged, broken tusks. She is noticeably muscular from her mining career.

Around her neck is a family sigil pendant, made of silver and depicting a man attacking a dragon with an axe - with sapphire lighting coming from the dragons mouth between them - tied around her neck with a leather cord. She is wearing a plain linen shirt with the sleeves ripped off and the bottom tied up to reveal her abs, she has dark brown leather breeches and a pair of black leather boots.

She is wielding a great-axe, Pudding's Bane, which glows bright moonlight and has a few runes that seem to hover over the axe blade. The handle of the blade is a dark wood and is wrapped in a light brown leather, from the pummel dangles a replica of her pendant carved from tusk. Strapped to her back is a javelin that resembles a lightning bolt.
